Salem is on the verge of crawling. So close to the verge that he needs knee-pads for all the carpet burn he's getting from his valiant attempts. (this was taken with my p&s camera...that's my excuse for the color and focus being all wonky)


Lest you think that we're running a Baby Boot-Camp over here with mini-man doing baby push-ups, let me assure you that that is his attempt at skipping the traditional baby crawl and going straight to the bear crawl.

If you can't tell, that's him saying, "mom! put the camera down and pick me up already!!"
It's a good picture for proving to his blessed nursery workers at church and at MOPS that yes, he does in fact have moments of unhappiness. Though, still, they may not believe it.

One Week Down...

A week in to the Winter Olympics! woohoo!

If you haven't been watching, then this won't make much sense.

So...exciting stuff so far!

Seth Wescott in the Snowboard Cross. AWESOME!

Apollo Ono. AWESOME! Though, I will say that the short-track relay thing is ridiculous! RIDICULOUS! If you watched that, you know what I mean. That's just really stretching for some sort of competition. Which brings us to curling. We're grateful they're not showing THAT during primetime. Really, a "sport" 90 year old women can play should not be included in the Olympics.

Poor Lindsey Jacobellis. After her crash in Torino, we were soooo pumped about her hopefully bringing home the gold this year. It was one of those moments where we almost woke up the kids again, because we were so excited watching her in the semis and then when she DQed we both gasped! Makes me sad.

Watching Lindsey Vonn bring home the gold (on men's skis!) on the downhill was awesome. Can you believe they go like 110 mph?! INSANE! Eden happened to be up watching with us that night (Olympics are a good excuse for a 9:30 bedtime, right?!) and there were so many terrible looking crashes that I probably should have covered her eyes. She was genuinely concerned every time someone faced planted into the snow.

Shaun White. That red hair. What else can you say?! Got the gold! Yet again! But we weren't expecting anything less. And he put icing on the cake with that mc-twisty-whatever. Truly impressive on the slopes and so entertaining off the slopes too. We've also decided we want Burton Snowboarding Plaid jackets like the USA team.

And the Luge. oh the Luge.

The only thing we've actually seen on tv so far that left us saying, "hmmm, what was the U.S. thinking?!" was this guy

He was pretty good! But is this all we could come up with? meh. I dunno. Just not digging the pink, glittery man-corset. We're not completely sold on ice skating, though I'll admit it's really impressive. (Ice dancing, not so much) That Evan Lysacek was absolutely incredible! And then he became 10 times more impressive in his interviews with good ole Bob Costas. Seriously, an all-American type of guy who makes you proud he's representing our country.

The Funnies

Eden has said some cool stuff lately.

Thought I'd share.

She's learning her letters. Right now, she can recognize A,B,C, & D. So this morning I asked her, "what comes after D?" She thought carefully... "SIX!"

She likes to pretend talk on her plastic cellphone with my brother's dog, Ali. She likes to tell Ali about the weather. Yesterday she told Ali that there's no more snow so she can't go "snowing" (sledding) but there's lots of mud so she can go "mudding." :)

One of her favorite songs right now is Deep and Wide. She gets the words mixed up sometimes and sings about "Pink and white, pink and white, there's a phmmphmnmphnm, flowing pink and white."

In the evening during her alone play time she pretends that her babydoll is in trouble and that she has to give her spankings. (can't imagine where she gets that from?!) And then yesterday after she gave the babydoll spankings I heard her from the kitchen mutter something about "Salem, spanking..." I turned around the corner just in time to save Salem's rear end from the wooden spoon. eeeeeesh.

And my favorite. About a week ago she started saying her own prayers. After I prayed over our lunch one day she said she wanted to pray too. So I told it was her turn. (and while she prayed, I teared up...I pray it's her first of MANY convos with God!)

"I pray daddy. I pray mommy. I pray Salem. I pray Ali. I pray food. I pray Scott Trichelle (her nightly request). I pray gymnastics. I pray obey. (she hears us pray that she'll keep learning to obey!) ...... AMEN!!!" And threw her arms up in the air in "TADA! fashion."

So cool.

Some of our dots on the clustr map are fading in other countries. I'm chalking this up to friends overseas moving back to the states (tear), and not because I'm becoming even more dull.

What's exciting to you? Less pictures? More words? Less kiddo info? More?

Gotta admit. My day to day life is pretty routine. Some days are more exciting than others. For instance, yesterday I put on my boot and stubbed my toe on a Bert and Ernie figurine. Would stories like that spice things up? Maybe not.

Regardless, I'm thankful for my 2 Portuguese speaking dots!

Doesn't that song give you chill bumps and make you want to either stand up in allegiance or jump around the room in

excitement?! I know! So exciting!! It makes me want to start doing Olympic style pirouettes in my living room or pretend

slalom skiing on my kitchen linoleum. Please tell me that's normal behavior.

We're not as crazy about the Winter Olympics as we are the Summer Olympics. But none the less, we're totally stoked.

So yet again, this blog may be neglected over the course of the next few weeks as we'll be channeled in to NBC's coverage in Vancouver, cheering on the U.S.A. and their red-headed rogue snow-boarder.

SNOW! WINTER!

Following the day that we got 5-6 inches of snow we had two GORGEOUS days that were perfect for sledding. We grabbed the only thing we had that we though might work as a sled, our boogie board from this past summer's beach trip, and headed back to the hill behind our apt that was already swarming with SEBTS students!

The next day we hijacked an innertube from some neighbors and Eden really liked using it!

Laundry Day

My laundry basket never looked so good...
